I Thought I Knew Everything About LinkedIn Until I Attended This Webinar

By: Tori Berube, MFF Volunteer

Have you ever thought you might know everything there is to know about a certain topic (software, platform, etc.)? From time-to-time, I think we all do. Sometimes it is helpful to take a moment and take a “refresher” course on a topic as a way to improve both your personal and professional growth.

Last week, I took the opportunity to attend a Morgan Fellowship Foundation-hosted webinar, “LinkedIn with Krystal Hicks, JOBTALK, LLC.” While I thought I had a pretty rock-solid LinkedIn profile, within a day my profile had been refreshed and re- energized to be a more complete and accurate reflection of my professional life.

A couple of quick and easy things you can do to improve your own LinkedIn profile include:

  • Adding a background graphic to better illustrate you and your professional goals. Not only does this add a little color to your profile, it is a nice graphic in a sea of text!
  • Leveraging the “Featured” section to include news articles, photos, blogs or other media where you are featured or that you have written. This provides another snapshot as to who you are and what you have done.
  • Asking trusted colleagues and collaborators to write a recommendation for you. Let others help you tell your story!

MFF has previously hosted this presentation with Krystal. Click here for another quick blog post on what Kendall learned when she attended!

So here goes. Please check out my updated LinkedIn profile and send me a message to let me know what you think. Let’s connect!
